It features eight playable characters with tons and tons of moves at their disposal. The series really peaked with Denjin Makaii II (Guardians) however, which was never ported. The first game received a Super Famicom port with a few changes known as Ghost Chaser Densei. Finding a chance to charge it in combat is part of the strategy. You can find Youtube videos of combos in Denjin Makai II going up to triple digits!Īnother distinguishing feature is a power bar that you can manually charge up to perform special attacks. The games also feature great combo systems. You can play through the games without even using every move at your disposal. The Denjin Makai series features one of the largest movesets of the genre. Fighting games owe a lot to the beat ’em up genre however, and many people often confuse the two genres since they share a lot of elements. The genre also helped big companies like Capcom and Konami further establish themselves with a number of classic and lucrative arcade games from both companies. Items such as weapons, health recovery items, and items awarding extra points can be picked up by standing over one and pressing the attack button. A thrown enemy can be tossed at another for additional damage. When an enemy is grabbed, the player can perform a grab attack by pressing the attack button or perform a throw by tilting the joystick left or right. When two players play, they can perform team-based special moves.Įnemies can be grabbed simply by walking into one of them. The player also can perform a jump attack. The final blow of the combo can be changed to a throw if the player moves the joystick in the opposite direction just before landing it. Pressing the attack button repeatedly when attacking an enemy or multiple enemies will cause the player character to perform a combo. The controls for Guardians consist of an eight-way joystick and two buttons for attacking and jumping respectively. Health gauges are displayed for both player and enemy characters, while energy bars are displayed for special moves. Guardians(Denjin Makai II) can be played by up to two players simultaneously. Guardians also known as Denjin Makai II, is a coin-operated arcade game.
